Carry the rope to the top of the canyon as a coil.

Untie the coil and place beside the bag.

Clip the open bag to the abseil device.

Store any gear that you don't need underneath the rope and gear you do need in your top pocket.

Tie the end of the rope into the bag with a double overhand hitch.
